  14. I run a program that searchs for, and issues advisory cancels for,
  15. large binaries in the akr, biz, comp, misc, news, rec, and sci
  16. hierarchies.

  18. I have issued 27 cancels for large binary files (average size 265,156
  19. characters - total size 7,159,232 characters) posted to 25 different
  20. unmoderated discussion groups in the rec, misc, comp, and sci
  21. hierarchies (with cross-posts into utah, phx, nv, nm, houston, az,
  22. austin, asu, alt, and vegas groups) as follows:

  66. The cancels in non-targeted groups are an unavoidable consequence of
  67. the way cancels work.  A cross-posted article has only one Message-ID.
  68. When it is canceled from one group it is canceled from all groups.

  70. This pointer is being posted (in two parts :-) ) to each affected group
  71. listed above, with the exception of test groups.  Follow-ups are
  72. directed to news.admin.net-abuse.misc.

  74. If you want to see exactly which file was deleted from a particular
  75. group, or the criteria that I used to select it, read the full report
  76. in news.admin.net-abuse.announce.  Look for AR248 in the subject.
  77. The full report can also be found in alt.nocem.misc and alt.retromod.

  79. If you must post a binary to Usenet, please post it *only* to an
  80. appropriate binaries newsgroup such as alt.binaries.misc, and do *not*
  81. crosspost it to non-binaries groups.  Then, if you like, post something
  82. in the appropriate discussion group telling people where to find the
  83. binary in the binaries group (a pointer to the binary).  This will
  84. permit news administrators and users to decide for themselves whether
  85. to receive the binary files.
